Walmart Health
Walmart took the healthcare world by storm when they opened their first clinic in Georgia last year.
They offer convenient, actually affordable healthcare including services ranging from annual checkups to dental work to mental health therapy and much more. Their prices are also transparent and easy to understand. For example, $1 a minute to talk with a therapist, $4 medications, and a $30 chest x-ray, to name a few. Walmart has created a great program and strategy, and it will be exciting to watch them scale and continue to bring affordable, transparent health care to patients.
Part of the reason why Walmart Health can offer these low prices is that they don’t have to worry about most of the costs that traditional healthcare providers have. For example, they already own the real estate for most of their clinics because they’re inside the existing Walmart stores, they use mid-level providers like nurse practitioners and physician assistants, and they have a very flat leadership hierarchy, with few administrators.
